The City
The City of Maupin is one of the central communities of the southern Wasco County region. The town itself has a population certified at 490 persons with the rest of southern Wasco County, population 4,204, also utilizing many of the services the City offers. Maupin is located directly on Central Oregon's Deschutes River right where US Highway 197 crosses. The location provides a rural quality of life with quick access to Portland (101 miles), Bend (90 Miles) and The Dalles (40 miles). Aside from US 197 there is also quick access to rail, barge and airport facilities in The Dalles and Portland.
Industries
Currently the area has a robust seasonal tourism industry due to the many nearby recreational opportunities such as the Deschutes River, the Mt. Hood Wilderness and the Columbia River Gorge. The area also has considerable agricultural and natural resource based industries.
Services
Maupin also possesses important services that make it a great place to live and do business. The City is home to the Southern Wasco County School District, with all K-12 schools located directly in town. The area is also served by a rural fire protection district, ambulance services and a rural health clinic located right in town. City Government has ensured that there is more than adequate infrastructure to serve growth and participates in many of the regional economic development networks and projects.
